Nevado Del Ruiz Issue

 

 

 

The Nevado Del Ruiz is an structure located in the department of Caldas at the central part of the country of Colombia; Its a beautiful natural reserve that offers pretty landscapes and good tourism for other people. Sadly this has being affecting all the near areas because the ash that it produces makes a big impact not only in the environment also in the human body. We want to show the sucess and events of this environmental structure, so for that is important to analyze the quantity of people exposed to the natural atraction, the history of the volcano and the effects in the near ecosystems.

History

 The Nevado del Ruiz  has been evolute with the pass of the years but there is an event that has been marking the history of the Nevado del Ruiz, This event took place in armero(Tolima). The volcano erupt within four hours, and the mod travel over 60 miles, killing more than 23,000 people, injuring over 5,000 and destroying around 5,000 homes. The hardest hit was on the town of armero, where around 28,700 inhabitants died. One of the most representative girl of this event was Omaira, this girl was one of the many victims of the Nevado del Ruiz, she was born on august 28 of 1972 and she died on November 13 of 1989. ( NationalHistory.com) The Nevado del Ruiz had changed a lot during the past years until now,it has lose its snow and it its producing lot of ash, which is affecting lots of people, because the ash is an incomfortable situation for the population, because they can have health problems, also these ash could be a bad situation. We can compare the Nevado del Ruiz situation with an issue in Peru, because both countries obtain help from some organizations like for example in Colombia: Unidad de gestión de riesgo and in Peru PADF this both are organizations that help with this disasters.   Some solutions could be to advise people around our school, or even people from the city, for them to know whats happening, below you can see other solutions and how we are doing them.

Evidence from last year

Last year we did a fair in which we showed the effects of the Nevado del Ruiz in the environment and in the community, also we try to make a solution in which we pasted some kits all around the school to show the equipment required if any explosion may happen. Lets see the image.

Mariquita: 23,104
Honda: 28,158
Santa Isabel: 23,274
Chinchina: 68,512

The nevado del ruiz has exposed a lot of cities like Pereira, that has 440,118 habiting people. Some other examples are like Manizales, that has 357,814 people, or even mariquita, that has 23,104 people. Honda, has 28,158 people, Santa Isabel, that has 23,274 people, and Chinchina, that has 68,512 people. If we add up all this people, we will get a total of 940,970 people that is being exposed by the volcano
of the nevado del ruiz.



Science information

The Nevado del Ruiz produces large quantity of gases which affects lots of things such as : the near crops of coffee, also it produce more air pollution when the gases are throw up to the atmosphere, water pollution when the ash fall into water bodies and finally it affects the species giving them respiratory problems, thats why you always need to be aware.

What we want to do next...

Now we know that this ash is incomfortable to the society, and it also give negative effects to the environment and to what surround us.  We created an informative video, interviewing some people about how they feel affect about the Nevado del Ruiz, then we uploaded it to YouTube an as you can see it below. Also we had created a channel in YouTube that is called NevadoDelRuiz Colombia, you can suscribe because will be uploading frecuently some videos about this issue. Also we had created social networks in which you can follow us.

Conclusions

The Nevado del Ruiz is affecting not only people, it also affects what surround us. It is a very confusing situation because it is something that no one can predict, so thats why we always need to be prepare.




The nevado del Ruiz had evolved with the past of the years, and with this the volcano had been affecting lots of people and the enviornment, thats why we have to be aware of this issue and be prepared for this


The Nevado del Ruiz is a beautiful volcano, but dangerous to us, so we need to be careful about this volcano and be prepared about what is coming next. Its important to follow every instruction to be better aware about this.
